How can I model dates in index?

In the model I am testing we use dates to model different time periods, we insert this data in the format

DAY/MONTH/YEAR

So all our data is like this EX: 06/30/2015, 07/30/2015 … etc.

The problem is that several parameters have the index t for date or periods. We declare this index as a string so we can use this format. The problem is that in some restrictions we have to use the previous date. So in some restrictions we have something like this

VARIABLE (t-1) since t is a string this operation is not valid.

We usually use an operation module that take the dates data and assign an integer

06/30/2015 is 0

07/30/2015 is 1

So that this is not a problem. I haven’t been able to find something similar in Xpress and I was wondering if there is a way to manage dates in Xpress.
